As my time at North Wales Golf ends this month, I’m reflecting on 4 incredible years coaching and watching golfers grow at the range. Huge thanks to the owners, staff, and all the amazing players I’ve taught for your support and memories. I’m excited for new adventures with my partner Tanya and our 2-year-old son Iago, as we work to create @greatormegolf. One day, with loads of work, it will be the UK’s best pitch and putt. I’ll announce the opening day of Great Orme Golf and details of my coaching services moving forward shortly.

You don’t know what you don’t know. Maybe your slice off the tee feels "normal," but you’re losing distance and accuracy without realizing it. How do you break through?

Watch the pros. Study their controlled drives.

Build knowledge about your game.

Book lessons with PGA Pros at Swish to identify weaknesses.

🔑 Take Accountability: Lessons guide you, but YOU need to work hard. Ignoring advice or expecting instant improvement is a common mistake.

2️⃣ CONSCIOUS INCOMPETENCE

Now you know your slice is caused by an open clubface and out-to-in swing, but you can’t fix it yet.

Use the Trackman Studio to analyze your swing and focus on correcting it.

Work on ONE thing at a time (e.g., squaring the clubface).

Be patient. Let your body and muscle memory adapt.

🔑 Stay Realistic: Progress takes time. Expecting immediate fixes or skipping practice slows results.

3️⃣ CONSCIOUS COMPETENCE

You’re hitting straighter drives but still need focus to stay consistent.

Use the Trackman Studio, putting green, or 9-hole course to practice.

Repeat the corrected motion until it feels natural.

Spend 10 minutes each on grip, alignment, and swing path.

🔑 Put in the Reps: Skipping practice or frequently changing drills stunts progress. Commit to consistent effort.

4️⃣ UNCONSCIOUS COMPETENCE

Your drives are straight, and it’s automatic. Now it’s time to refine your strategy and take your game to the next level.

Shape shots, improve putting, and sharpen tactics.

We’re thrilled to welcome Matt Pugin to the Swish team @northwalesgolf 🔥

Matt, a South African Golf Professional, brings a wealth of experience from both South Africa and the U.S., where he worked at a prestigious Golf Academy in Philadelphia with Robin. Since moving to the UK in 2020, Matt has been a driving force behind golf coaching programs all over North Wales, and we're excited to have him on board!

He'll be available for individual and group lessons for all ages and abilities, and as a custom fit expert, Matt will make sure your gear is perfectly suited to your game. Matt, a South African Golf Professional, brings a wealth of experience from both South Africa and the U.S., where he worked at a prestigious Golf Academy in Philadelphia with Robin. Since moving to the UK in 2020, Matt has been a driving force behind golf coaching programs all over North Wales, and we're excited to have him on board!

He'll be available for individual and group lessons for all ages and abilities, and as a custom fit expert, Matt will make sure your gear is perfectly suited to your game.
